How to find cheap(er) flights A.K.A Flight Hacking

Not sure you can really call it hacking... its more being patient, smart and thinking outside the box.

We always use Skyscanner to track and book our flights. From the tracking I have done, Skyscanner always seems to be the cheapest (even cheaper than going direct with an airline). We have an affiliation with Skyscanner and would love for you to use our referral link

When to book International Flights?

Flights are released around 11 months in advance and as you probably know fluctuate A LOT - one minute you look and its x amount look 2 days later and the flight has gone up by £200. According to research the best time to book your international flight is around 6-8 months in advance. We can definitely back that - we booked our flights to Thailand 7 months before our flight was due but I was looking at flights for around 4 months before actually committing to a flight (doing all my research for the best possible price) and by doing that it saved us almost £1000

Which day to book?

According to online results, Tuesday is the best day to book a flight as most airlines release special deals and promotions on a Tuesday.

Which day to fly?

To me this is obvious but maybe not to others - Fridays are more expensive as everyone wants a weekend away so if you can avoid a Friday try for Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday

Which websites to use?

There are SO many airlines to choose from picking who you fly with can be difficult, however, websites like Skyscanner are great - in fact we mostly use Skyscanner as they have a great feature to turn on notifications for certain flights you are looking at to tell you if a flight cost goes up or down. They also have another cool feature "explore everywhere" which shows you cheap flights from everywhere if you don't have a specific location in mind. Keep scrolling as we will give you more information on which websites to use further down.

Shall I shop Around?

Absolutely. Although I have found when booking for SPECIFIC countries you are best off using a search engine, however, you can use the search engine like Skyscanner alongside airline websites. There is no harm in finding flights that you like the price of on the search engine and then checking the airlines website direct (same dates, same times) to see if it is cheaper to book directly or not. 9/10 I have found that it wasn't but you just never know.
