Landing at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is an exciting moment—you're just a short ride away from the vibrant heart of the city, the Medina. However, navigating the journey from the airport to your accommodation can be overwhelming, especially if it's your first time in Marrakech. Here’s everything you need to know about the best transport options and getting from Marrakech Airport to the Medina.
1. By Taxi – The Most Convenient Option
Taxis are the most common way to reach the Medina from the airport, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
How Much Does It Cost?
Official rates range between 150-200 MAD (£12 - £15) for a taxi to the Medina.
Always agree on the price before getting in—many drivers will try to overcharge tourists.
Taxis at the airport operate on fixed pricing, but if you can negotiate, you may get a lower fare.
Where to Find Taxis?
As you exit the airport, you’ll see a taxi rank right outside.
Grand taxis (larger, shared taxis) are also available, but they may wait to fill up before leaving.
Things to Know
Most taxis only accept cash.
If your riad is deep inside the Medina, taxis can only take you to the nearest access point, and you may need to walk the rest of the way.
2. By Private Transfer – Hassle-Free & Pre-Booked
If you prefer a stress-free arrival, a pre-booked private transfer is the best option.
Why Choose a Private Transfer?
Fixed price—no haggling or surprises.
Door-to-door service—drivers will often walk you to your riad if it’s tricky to find.
Best for families or groups—more space for luggage and kids.
How Much Does It Cost?
Prices start from £15-£25 depending on the service.
Recommended providers include Welcome Pickups, BookTaxi Marrakech, and local riad-arranged transfers.
3. By Bus – The Budget-Friendly Option
If you’re looking for the cheapest way to get from the airport to the Medina, the public bus is an option - this is our favourite option
Bus 19 (Airport Express)
Runs every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM.
Costs 30 MAD (£2.80) one way or 50 MAD (£4.50) return and kids are usually free (but will be given a ticket)
Return tickets are valid for 5 days
Drops off at Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main square in the Medina.
Is It Worth It?
Super cheap compared to taxis.
Good option if traveling light.
Not ideal if you have heavy luggage or arrive late at night.

4. Walking – Not Recommended
While the airport is only 6 km (3.7 miles) from the Medina, walking is not a realistic option, especially with luggage and the Moroccan heat. Stick to a taxi, transfer, or bus instead.
Final Tips for a Smooth Arrival
Always have some cash (MAD) for taxis, as most don’t take cards.
Confirm your riad’s location before arrival—many are tricky to find.
Expect some hustle—locals may offer to guide you for a tip, so keep small change handy.
If arriving late, pre-book a transfer to avoid taxi negotiations in the dark.
With this guide, you’re all set for a smooth and stress-free arrival in Marrakech!
