Flying With Gulf Air

We flew to Thailand with Gulf Air, and since we’d never heard of them before and the online reviews weren’t great, we weren’t sure what to expect. That’s why we wanted to share our own experience with you.

As always, we booked our flights through Skyscanner. I spent months flight-watching to find the best deal, but prices kept climbing higher and higher. I was close to giving up on Thailand altogether, but one Sunday morning in March, a Gulf Air flight to Bangkok popped up—and it was around £1,200 cheaper than all the other airlines. We booked it straight away! The only downside was a three-hour layover in Bahrain, but we quickly convinced ourselves it wouldn’t be so bad. It gave us time to stretch our legs, freshen up, and reorganise our carry-on bags.

The flight itself turned out to be really comfortable. There was plenty of legroom (which is super important for us since Oli and I are both tall), and the in-flight entertainment was decent. The food was nice and overall, we were pleasantly surprised!

When we landed in Bahrain, we were pleasantly surprised to discover just how well-equipped the airport is for children—a complete bonus for both us and Jax! Right in the middle of the terminal, there’s a huge kids’ area packed with soft play equipment, beanbags, PS5s loaded with games like Minecraft and FIFA, and even arcade games—all completely free to use. It was such an unexpected treat and made our layover so much more enjoyable and certainly made our time there go a lot quicker.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience flying with Gulf Air and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. If you find yourself debating between Gulf Air and another airline, don’t let a cheaper price tag put you off (if they happen to offer a lower fare for your destination). Cheaper doesn’t always mean lower quality, and Gulf Air really exceeded our expectations.

From the comfortable seating and generous legroom to the decent in-flight entertainment options, they delivered a great travel experience. Plus, the bonus of a well-equipped airport in Bahrain made our layover surprisingly enjoyable, especially with the amazing kids' area.

If you’re looking for a reliable airline that combines comfort with value for money, Gulf Air is definitely worth considering. We went in with low expectations based on reviews, but they completely won us over. For families, couples, or solo travelers, Gulf Air offers a quality experience that’s hard to beat at their price point. Give them a try—you might just be pleasantly surprised like we were!
