Collecting Avios Points For Free Flights

Avios Points with British Airways and American Express

What are Avios Points I hear you say... Well they are points that you collect when you spend money that are then converted into Air Travel Miles with British Airways that you can then spend on FREE flights. We collect Avios Points with our American Express Credit card - now I am not promoting people using credit cards as a way to pay for things you can't afford (that is your prerogative) but what I am promoting is free flights. 

So this is how it works and how we use it to our advantage:

1) Take out an American Express Credit Card with our link by using our link you will receive 6,000 bonus Avios points when you spend £1000 in the first 3 months (we will also get 4,000 bonus Avios Points - winning). At the time of posting this you will actually get 10,000 bonus Avios and we will get 8,000 bonus Avios

2) Once you get your card take a look at your spending - how do you spend your money? If you are not already using "Cash Back" websites then you are not spending your money correctly 

3) Every penny you spend using your Debit Card switch and start using your credit card (food shopping, Amazon shopping, day to day spending, days out, nights out, drinks in the pub, take aways etc) and as soon as you spend on the credit card, move the money out of the account it is usually in and put it into a holding pot.

4) When the credit card balance is available to pay, pay it off in full.

For every £1 you spend on the credit card this gets converted to 1 Avios Air Mile to spend with British Airways that is why we suggest spending everything on the credit card (ONLY if you can pay it off there and then)

Once you spend £12,000 within the first 12 months of having the credit card you will get a Companion Voucher which means when you book a flight using your Collected Avios points, you can use your Companion Voucher to get a free seat on the same flight (all you pay is taxes) + any child fares - this is one of the main reasons we collect Avios. 

5) Another way to maximise the amount of Avios you collect use the British Airways App to shop - Millets you get 8 Avios for every £1 spent, Booking.com you get 6 Avios for every £1 spent, Just Eat up to 25 Avios for every £1 spent (insane). There are so many shops you can shop at going through the BA app - really worth looking into.

To give you some idea over the last 12 months since we opened the card we have gained over 53,000 Avios points just by changing the way we spend our money.

Last night we booked our first flight using our Avios points and companion ticket and booked our seats on a flight to Berlin and back in May with British Airways. This flight cost us 37,000 Avios points and £3 (for all 3 of us). I had a look on the BA website after to see how much these same flights would have cost and it was coming in at £685.67 for the EXACT same flight. So our flights to Berlin were basically free and honestly you really can't argue with that, I am just annoyed we haven't been collecting Avios points longer, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

So if you want flights for you and a "companion" for basically nothing then in my opinion this is the way to do it.
